Moving up to 'Big School'
Where do Farthinghoe Primary School children move up to, after Year 6?
In the past 5 years, our children have continued their academic journey at a number of local secondary schools.
As Farthinghoe Primary School is a designated contributory primary school to Chenderit, it has proven a popular choice with our families, in recent years. Pupils that have attended Farthinghoe Primary School are subject to priority placement, as per critieria iv. of Chenderit School's Admissions Arrangements (4.2 Oversubscription Admission Criteria). Applications for Secondary School
We work closely with our pupils and families to ensure they make the right choice, when deciding their next school. Moving up to 'big school' can be daunting for all young people and we work hard to ensure Farthinghoe pupils have the resilience, confidence and positivity for the next step.
Secondary Schools host their annual prospective Open Evenings during the Autumn Term. These are advertised locally but information is also shared with parents/carers of children in year 5 and 6.
We strongly encourage our families to attend the Open Evenings and look at the options available to them.
Applications are made via your Local Authority Admissions team. For West Northamptonshire the application form can be found at www.westnorthants.gov.uk/secondary-school-places/apply-secondary-school-place.
**Please note - applications must be made via your home Local Authority, even if you intend to apply for a school in a different area.
The application process opens in early September each year and the closing date is 31st October. Parents/Carers have the option to apply for a maximum of 4 schools and duplicate applications cannot be made.
The national notification day for secondary school applications is early March.
During the summer term we work with the onward school and our pupils to ensure a smooth transition, including information sharing, visits from staff and transition days.
