Special Educational Needs
As children develop differently, some experience more difficulty than others with learning or behaviour or physical tasks. Such children receive continuous support and assistance with their progress at Farthinghoe School.
We are particularly proud of our support programmes for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The general classroom curriculum is differentiated and this ensures that those children who need additional support or practice in a new skill have opportunities to succeed and consolidate their learning.
Targets in their Individual Educational Programme form the focus for class teachers, parents and support staff, in order to help children progress in the key skills areas. Some of our children are also supported by our SEN staff in small groups and by 1:1 tuition, often in the classroom, but sometimes in a quiet area where it is easier to concentrate away from distractions.
In our experience those children with SEN make better progress when there is a strong partnership between home and school. We encourage parents to take an active role in helping with learning tasks at home. Regular parent/teacher meetings take place to monitor the children’s progress and to discuss ways in which parents can support our work further.
